Emma Colson celebrates at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

Clinica Media's very own Emma Colson, physiotherapist and author on the Lowbackpain CD-Rom will be riding for Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, 23rd March 2006 in Mountain Bike Cross Country (MTB XC).

Emma had a smooth year in 2005, winning the national title in March and then competing overseas. Things started to go wrong one week prior to world championships when she was hit by a motor bike resulting in a ruptured ACL.

“Following the knee surgery getting back into training was mentally and physically a hard slog. The first national round for the year was crucial to compete in for points for the selection races but I really didn’t feel confident on the knee to race. I guess I have now learnt a whole new depth to being an athlete, coping with enforced variations in training and just looking after yourself enough to sneak into the results when it really matters.”

“Most people do things the other way around (move from being athletes to becoming staff). I worked with the Australian Womens Road Cycling team from 1997 – 2000. Being selected as physio at the Olympics was very special but nothing like the feeling of gaining selection as an athlete for Commonwealth Games.”
